Rating: 76 Overall, a pretty good psychological thriller that is well thought out and shows how jealousy affects family dynamics/relationships, all supported by a good performance by Daisy Ridley and a well done climax
Fairly good direction (on a macro scale, the direction is good as it does a good job of presenting the conflict and planting the horror/thriller roots throughout the film; on a micro scale, the direction is fair to good as you really see the the family dynamics and relationships between the characters in the interpersonal walls of the narrative are good, because you are really interested in what is going to happen next, while they slowly unravel the conflict; created well, because it holds the audience’s attention (especially towards the climax)), Pretty good acting (good from Daisy Ridley (really shows a full range of emotions and a lot of charisma in the lead role), Pretty good from Shazad Latif ( good acting for Ridley, but a little too overt villain (though still pretty good)), Not bad by Matilda Lutz (shows some separation from the two main characters, but keeps her individuality), Not bad or quite good from the rest of the team (everyone plays their role well, but it’s really about the three main characters)), Pretty good or good story (The concept is pretty interesting because it ties together horror concepts around family dynamics and relationships; the plot structure is well thought out; the transitions between episodes are good; the written characters are pretty good since you really get an idea of who Daisy Ridley’s character is, but everything else is a bit open), the script is pretty good (the dialogue is pretty good (some amateur lines); the symbolism is pretty common since the film is centered around the dynamic family, and also touches on the topic of foreshadowing is very good, as it is a key element in the story), quite good; music (helps to set the tone), quite good cinematography (very well-executed frames to create tension and create the solitude of the world (especially when dealing with reflection)), decent editing, pretty good sound (helps to set tension), , the pace is good, as the film feels at the right pace, the climax is well-executed, yes how they show what they asked to create for the whole film, the tone is very similar to other psychological thrillers that saw the world premiere at the SXSW festival.
