Synopsis
In war-torn times, a poor woodcutter and his wife live in a large forest. One day a woman finds and rescues a girl, making irreversible changes in the life of a couple and those whose path meets a child.. The Second World War is one of the darkest histories of mankind. A time when humanity simply refused the gray war, when the world witnessed the scale of human cruelty.
A time when revival, redemption and peace were promised
The hand of Faith has just struck Europe in its most familiar and terrible form: the great debt of the great war and the lost generation tower over it. The world stopped not because of Chic, or at least not only because of him, but because of what is under him. Ahead of the greatest world tragedy at the time lies an even darker future. Germany lay in ruins, having just lost the war, the faith of its people and the strength of its empire.

A few years after this surprisingly dark period lived a modest and elderly couple of German carpenters. A man goes to chop down big trees, and a woman ties small branches. Both spend a hard day’s work to arrive at a small house in the middle of the forest, where soup and a tired old dog await them. Not having a child, a woman begs for everything she has, having left God or not reconciled with him.

She begs the sky, the forest and even the railway gods to give her a train. In this empty corner of the forest, the train made its way through the white winter snow, slowly but grimly reaching its terrible destination. And once a baby was thrown out of the train only to be picked up by an old village woman. A heartless thing for someone, but not for her.

This is followed by a beautifully crafted tragedy, the history of humanity: the loving force within him that creates and sacrifices, and his inherently evil side that avenges and retaliates. The animated film by Michel Khazanavichus is borrowed in a very comic style, which takes you to the heart of the enchanted forest, together with its peculiar set of characters and the dark setting of the Second World War. This is one of the most beautiful tear-jerking films of the year.
