The script was full of jokes about cancel culture and sexual violence
Scenario
A small village in northern France is the battlefield of secret alien knights. Adèle Haenel was originally to play the lead role, but dropped out due to disagreements with Bruno Dumont regarding the script. "At first I thought it looked like a lot of fun: a kind of Luke Skywalker in space. The problem is that behind this funny facade, they have protected a dark, sexist and racist world. TLDR: Don’t waste your time unless you often find hackneyed tasteless sexist jokes (for both genders) extremely funny and original. I don’t know what makes me more appalled and appalled here: how the director got such a big budget for this piece of crap, or that it actually premiered at a film festival (Berlinale) AND is in the Main Competition category. The plot of the film is a fairly clear allegory of the supposed ^battle of the sexes^. A parody. I have only one memory of the crowd actually laughing out loud at something in this movie.
Goths against the mainstream
Well, a very successful comedy for a moment I thought there was more to it – like a satire of French teenage villagers and their evolving worldview. Or something like that – slightly more fun. Not. It’s as banal and one-dimensional as it looks – the men’s team is the monarchy represented by macho men groping women, but all women love them. The female team are democratic warriors who fight for equality and solidarity, but they also immediately bond emotionally with the machos.
That was funny for a second
Oh, there’s a joke about the French police being useless. But then that too quickly became boring and repetitive. I give it several points because you can sit through the movie without wanting to be offended. On a side note though, I watched it in a theater and the extremely loud screeching music and voices (which I think is intentional) often made me want to muffle it all by covering my ears.
